Who is this Abhay Vardhan guy anyway?

I grew up in a small town called Roorkee in northern India. Roorkee is just south of the foothills of the Himalayas and is famous for its engineering college which is now an IIT (Indian Institute of Technology). I did go to an IIT for my undergrad but in Delhi. After finishing my undergraduate degree, I headed west to United States for graduate studies and landed in Urbana-Champaign, Illinois. I found Urbana-Champain very similar to my hometown; both are essentially defined by their universities and have a nice, relaxed kind of atmostphere. I never knew I would stick around in Urbana for as long as I did but now I have finally gravitated to the Bay area where so many of my friends from school and undergrad have moved to.

Activities

I like listening to western classical music. Among my favorites are The Blue Danube and various compositions by Mozart and Beethoven. I also enjoy skiing (at a very beginner level), ice skating, roller blading. I used to be pretty active when I was a kid in all sorts of sports like cricket, tennis, table tennis (ping pong), badminton, frisbee and so on but now I do not find much time. I still manage to keep up a good exercise routing between jogging and going to the gym.

Readings

I have read all of Isaac Asimov's stories and a fair number of his novels. I like the short stories better since they are to the point and usually have a nice punch line. I have also read some of Robert Sawyers work. I often ponder about the meaning of life and how we should live a fulfilling life. I have explored ideas in Vipassana and practice its medidation techinique. I find Vipassana medidation quite beneficial, it helps to relax and see our day-to-day activities and tension in a better perspective. I have also studied Jeevan Vidya promulgated by A. Nagraj in India.
